We experience, feel, read, and share
every instant that belongs to this island.
Departing from this point, it is a dialogue with nature, ecology, and humanities.
In the series of “Reading the Islandy Culture 2”, the latitude consists of the compilation of the cultural landscape of Taiwan whereas the longitude is the exploration of the hidden ordinary arts. In this way, the public can get to know the arts and cultures that are close to our daily life on the island – food, clothing, living, and all kinds of activities.
This time, the six lectures are based on the theme of “dressing-up”. We invite everyone to reflect together on how to transform the clothing that we use to cover the body, define identity, highlight or disguise sexual characteristics into art creations or how to derive them into a particular culture.
We propose the question “What’s inside Art?” and take clothing as the carrier of nature and culture. Based on “Dressing up with the World”, the lectures are presented with materials that come from nature – cottonseed, barks, and dyeing – and particular cultures that have been developed – theatrical costumes, scarlet makeup, and tattoo. Six groups of artists are invited to share their process, ideals, and experiences of creation. You are welcome to come and experience the multicolored culture intertwined with the various clothing in a chill weekend-afternoon.
