The cultural publishing field is facing a challenging issue in this era: reading habits have changed in the digital age. People are used to read short information quickly, resulting in the decreasing frequency of buying and reading physical books. However, books and spaces may carry various possibilities. In this Cultural Taiwan Forum, we will focus on Japan as we have invited the cultural observer slash visual designer, Wu Tung-lung, and the former editor-in-chief of “Shopping Design”, also the creator of a new type of reading project, Jenny Lee, to talk about the books and spaces they like, as well as their observation of how Japanese bookstores cultivate their markets so that the reading behaviors can be preserved.
